Block Measuring & Inspection

Know what the core is worth before you spend on it.

Bores, decks and journals measured and recorded so you can decide whether to build this block or find another.

Plenty of engines are bought as "good runners" and turn out to be a boat anchor. An inspection is the cheapest hour you can spend on a build: measure everything first, then decide.

We check bores for wear and ovality, the deck for flatness, journals and main tunnel for size, and look for the cracks that show up in the usual places on these blocks.

You get the figures written down, with a straight answer on what the block needs, what it would cost to get there, and whether we would build it ourselves or look for a better core.

What the job includes

  • Bore wear, ovality and taper measured
  • Deck flatness checked
  • Journal and main tunnel sizes recorded
  • Visual crack inspection of the known trouble spots
  • Written figures and a go / no-go recommendation

What we need from you

  • The block, ideally stripped
  • What you intend to build and the power you are after
  • Anything you already know about its history

From the shop floor

Cylinder measured with a dial gauge on a granite surface plate
Vernier caliper checking timing gear and chain alignment on the case
Precision straight edge laid across the deck to check flatness
